Mid-America Christian University

Mid-America Christian University (MACU), established in 1953, is a private liberal arts college that believes in helping its students achieve Bible-based academic excellence. It is affiliated with the Church of God and based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Students enrolled in the university currently number at almost 1,500, a good number of which (223) are ministry students. Graduate enrollment has also gone up increasing by 335 % within the last 3 years, so that the total number of graduate students in 2011 number at 321.

The Mid-America Christian University is proud of its athletics with scholarships offered in 8 athletic sports. Athletic teams for Men’s sports at MACU include baseball, basketball, soccer, and golf. Athletic teams for Women’s sports at MACU include basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Their teams play at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and were awarded the Champions of Character Five Star Institution award for 2010-2011. The university is especially proud of its women’s soccer team, which placed 3rd in the NAIA Sooner Athletic Conference 2010 fall season.

Mid-America Christian University offers over 25 major fields of study at the undergraduate level. The major fields of study currently available at MACU include Business Administration, Marketing, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, Social Sciences & History, English: Literary & Cultural Studies, Social Sciences & History, Teacher Education (Elementary/Secondary Vocal Music Education, Secondary English Education and Secondary Social Studied Education, Secondary Math Education), Bible & Theology, Bible & Theology/Pastoral Care, Music Performance, and Mathematics. They also offer Multi-disciplinary Studies in Bible/Theology & Business, Business, Behavioral Science, English, Bible/Theology & Music, and Mathematics. In addition to these, Specialized Ministries programs in Christian Education Ministry, Music Ministry, Pastoral Care, World Missions & Urban Evangelism, and Youth Ministry, are also available.

The university offers programs especially geared for busy working adults through the College of Adult and Graduate Studies, where programs are offered either as accelerated 2-year on-campus programs, or as fully online programs. Graduate level programs available at MACU’s College of Adults and Graduate Studies include a Master of Arts in Leadership (with emphasis on Business Management, Public Administration, and Higher Education Administration), Master of Business Administration (with emphasis on Health Care Administration, International Business, and Accounting), and Master of Science in Counseling (with emphasis on Addiction & Substance Abuse, Marital & Family Therapy, Pastoral/Spiritual Direction, and Professional Counselor).

All online courses at the university will be transferred to a new platform called Desire2Learn by April 2012 so that students currently using the soon-to-be-phased-out eCollege platform are encouraged to print out all resources and assignments before the said date. The shift in platform will, however, not affect the course offerings and online programs available at the university.

Tuition rate for undergraduate degree programs at MACU is $570 per credit hour. Tuition for graduate degree programs administered by the College of Adults & Graduate Studies is $516 per credit hour, while the accelerated programs charge $295 to $395 per credit hour, depending on the program. Financial assistance is available at MACU in the form of Federal grants and loans, scholarships, and work-study programs.

The university is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and the Oklahoma Commission on Teacher Preparation.
